"Streets and Canals in Venice 91"
Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.
Plate 91 includes the following note in the book's annex: "MALAMOCCO. - This island - which may be called a village — is situated at the southern extremity of that long strip of shore which extends from the port to which it gives its name all the way to that of Lido. The ancient Malamocco was swallowed up by the waves, from which the present one commenced to emerge in the XIIth century. It presents nothing artistically noteworthy. The Bell-tower seen in the engraving exists no longer; another, of more modest dimensions has taken Its place."
