"Streets and Canals in Venice 16"

Black and white plate from 'Streets and Canals in Venice and in the Islands of the Lagoons'.

Plate 16 includes the following note in the book's annex: "RIO or CANALE DELLA MISERICORDIA with the Aseo and Lustra-feri bridges, — The title of Misericordia was derived from that of a neigh-bouring Scuola, or residence of a Brotherhood dedicated to the Virgin in 1308. On the left of the canal is a gothic palace formerly belonging to the Gheltofs."
